Am I doing the right thing? I only read Latin and black magazines since they are not anti black...? In my teen years I would get self magazine after self magazine......I always wondered did they know that black women also read their stuff? Even once the whole magazine was about skin cancer and then another time about how to get the right tan! Thats fine, but for non-white readers we really don't care can you add more other then skin cancer and how to tan after?
The next problem is all the models were white, and then if they were nice the rare biracial women.
Once they had a black women model and a reader told them thanks can you add more...you know make it equal?
So I gave up, at the age of 19 I found Latin magazines that had both BLACK, in between, and white Latin women...it was pure heaven everything equal. So now I have two Latin based magazines that come to my home and three black based magazines.
I plan on learning spanish so I can get the other Latin magazines that are in Spanish only.
Got tired of reading in a world that didn't know I exist!
The only white made magazine I get is Seventeen magazine because their race friendly. They don't ignore asians, blacks or Latin girls.
What is your take on this? | | they don't think that they are black, white, or asian. they think that latino is a race. | Getting my teen the right car for her birthday? I have a 15 year old daughter. He birthday is next week. She is wanting a bentley www.bentleymotors.com/models/continental_series/continental_gtc/exterior/colours/default.aspx
we have already bought it and it is sitting in the garge at our home in los angeles(where he party is being held) we want something safe but we don't know if we made the right choice in a car. We are thinking about giving her the car when she is seventeen and getting her a porche www.porsche.com/latin-america-en/_st-lucia_/models/cayenne/cayenne-turbo/
any advice?? | | A 15-year-old does NOT need a Porche. Get her something simple, like a Toyota. | Read for more details about my question about Teenage girls? So I am in grad school and I have to do a presentation about my research of Black teen girls ( I am black). I am trying to show other teachers that there are not many programs for our teen girls ( Black or not) . Society has a lot of mentor programs that cater to males to keep them from violence and gangs. But where are the programs for girls? My plan is to show teachers that we need to provide a place or a program in our schools or outside the schools for girls to connect with each other and other professional women. Not their teachers and not their mothers. Also I cant find any celebrities that teen black girls can look up to. There is Raven on Disney but that is it. Where are the role models that look like our Latin girls and our Black girl? Any suggestions of movies or people girls can watch and learn something from. A show like Hanna Montana or even something older.
Do you think what I am saying is true or am I all wrong? THANKS FOR READING! Does that sound good? Any help | Tyra Banks, Oprah...although i don't like Tyra Banks...she is a fake.
your project sounds like it will benefit teen girls. i like the feminist touch to it. keep it up, it is very genuine. | What do you think of the first chapter...? Its kinda long but still what do you think? Please constructive criticism not something like it sucks like tell me why it sucks and how to perfect it...its my first novel I've written stories before but not novels. Thanks
Jennifer Tames was a 5’6 all American girl from New-York. Her sister Amy was recently diagnosed with leukemia. At age 11 it was a lot for a young girl of 11 years. Jennifer was 16 and her long time dream was to get good grade’s and get into Harvard to become a lawyer. Her mother was a Latin-looking model who made millions by the minute.
Jennifer was usually left alone with her sister for week’s even months at a time in a big, empty apartment. A friend of her mom’s, Candice, came to check up on them two or three times a week.
Jennifer spent a lot of time in front of the mirror comparing herself to petite girls, like her mom. Her mom pressured Jennifer a lot to lose weight. Jennifer was 5’6 after all and weighed in at about 126 which in her mother’s eyes was overweight.
Jennifer along side her mother and sister, Amy, lived on the top floor of 172 West Houston Street. It was a modern styled place with windows all over. Often when her mom was gone, like most teens with celebrity parents, had out of control parties with her enthusiastic friend, Charmaine. Jennifer would constantly receive complains from the floor underneath her, for the insanely loud, outrageous, parties.
Mrs. Jenckins, the 68 year old ex- Broadway star who also lived in 172 West Houston Street, downtown New York. Mrs. Jenckins was usually known as Dayna or Daisy. She was the type of old lady who reeked of cheap perfume and always had a think layer of heavily packed on makeup of neon colors and deep red or bright pink lipstick. She dressed herself up in black leather pants and shirts that weren’t anywhere near suitable for a 68 year old woman. She was also the type that complained about little creeks or fallen china-ware. Dayna also hated Jennifer and Charmaine with a great passion. Charmaine often said it was because they were young and gorgeous, and she was old, saggy and wrinkly.
Jennifer’s young sister Amy was an eleven year old blonde with green eyes who was put into the hospital for leukemia. Jennifer was the one who rushed her to the hospital after she had fainted for the second time in the same week. She had also looked extremely frail and weak. Coco never seemed to really care about her daughters. When Amy was diagnosed with leukemia she hadn’t even thought once about coming home to help Amy cope. Then again both her daughters were apparent “accidents” which Jennifer refused to believe because her father had passed away from a tragic car accident which led to the unexpected death. He passed away just six months before the birth of the one and only Amy Tames.
Jennifer had gotten into her weekly fight with her mom.
“I want you to come home! I’m sick of it, you never come home and when you do it’s to give me **** for having parties!” Jennifer screamed through her new glammed out Sidekick.
“That’s not true! You’re acting like a big baby! You are constantly arguing with me! That’s it this is my final conclusion you’re grounded for the whole week. Is that clear?”
“Not really! I mean you’re never home and to consider it’s really stupid! It wouldn’t make any difference if you were here or not!” Jennifer was screaming to the point of popping veins.
“Well then…Let me work my magic!” Coco replied somewhat calmly.
“What magic? You have no magic!” Jennifer said trying to gain a respectful tone in her angry voice.
“Just watch.” Coco retaliated.
“Well I have to go. I got to go to the hospital to visit your daughter. Remember?” Jennifer said as she quickly hung up her phone still angry that her mother clearly didn’t care. It wasn’t a surprise to Jennifer considering the fact that she and Amy were both “accidents” but Jennifer really knew the truth.
| | I think it's pretty good, but it's kinda weird 'cause my best friend's name is Coco. | Why Rock music died before year 2000? I think this is the perfect spot to post my article. Please understand is not my intention to discriminate any kind of race or culture and sorry for my broken English.
The United States dominates the Anglo music when talking "business" as Mexico does with Latin music. All the big label companies are here and in order to make money they have to sell and produce whatever the "new generation" is listening to. So the question is what teens likes? If you ask a teenager in the UK there are many that likes punk but again what's going on in the US is the key. If you ask an American teenager, "Hip-Hop is cool" go to a teen school party and you will see, there is not room for long hair rocker guys or something else. Wear your white frame glasses and a Bling-Bling and you will get all the girls attention. That's cool for them, hip -hop is cool today and will sell very well. It comes from a culture that was treat very bad in America many years ago and they work hard to be on the top of everything, sport, music and politics as well. Today North America teenagers listen, dress, speak and acts following that model whatever they are white, Latin, Pilipino, Asian... Why? Because is cool! So that’s why rock-metal died. If you want to "fit in" make sure your iPod is full of hip hop and your pants are falling down to your knees. That’s what’s going on United Sates today and I don't see will change much on the next 10 years, but who knows? | | Hard Rock AS Not Died At All ... | I need help with names for my characters in my book?
